Free beanie hat crochet pattern

Updated: Jan 23, 2024

For me, it is difficult to found the perfect beanie that fits my head. I don't know if this is an issue that other people have, but everyone has their own unique head shape. For example, my husband has a very round and large head, compared to me that has an oval shape one. There is my father in law that wears children's beanie because his head is small.

Therefore, it is hard to found the perfect beanie that fits all. HOWEVER, with this pattern, a crochet hook and a yarn, you will be able to create a beanie for any shape or form of head.

This is a very simple and easy beanie to do and great for everyone.

I want to clarify that this pattern is for a medium size adult head, but the beauty of it, is that i will guide you to make it fit to all the heads.

The first thing you need to do, is to measure the head of the person. You need the head circumference and the head height. With that, you can modify this pattern to the measurement you need. I will guide you throughout this pattern, don't worry.

For those who wants the measurement of this simple. Its 21 inch circumference, 9 inch height with the brim bend, 11.5 inch without the brim bend.

The materiel

Yarn : any super bulky yarn (#6). For this simple i used the Loops & threads ringspun acrylic blend.

Crochet hook : 8mm

Measuring tape, scissors, needle

Abbreviation

Ch : chain

sc : single crochet

blsc : back loop single crochet

dc : double crochet

dec : decrease

slst : slip stitch

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE MAKING THIS PATTERN (does not apply for the brim)

- Every chain 2 (ch2) DOES NOT COUNT as a double crochet.

- The first double crochet of every row will be made in the same stitch as the chain and will count AS THE FIRST DOUBLE CROCHET.

- At the end of each row, you will slip stich in the first double crochet.

-In this pattern, you don't turn around.

The brim

1. ch 11, from the second ch from the hook, do 10sc

2.-45. ch 1, turn, 8blsc

You can adjust to the measurement you have for the circumference by either add rows or have less rows.

Attach it together by : ch 1, slst in the back loop to join the brim. Don't fasten off

See pictures bellow.

Make sure you stay in the wrong side, because you will be folding the brim upward.

The bend

SEE THE IMPORTANT INSTRUCTION ABOVE

1. ch 2, 45 dc, join in the first dc. Do a dc in each of the rows you did the brim. So, one in the part that is raised, followed by one in the underneath part.

2.-6. Ch 2, 45 dc

Here, you can add rows to fit the height of the head. Keep in mind that the pattern is 9 inch height with the brim bend, so by adding a row, you will add around 1 inch.

7. ch2, (7dc, dec) x5

8. ch2, (6dc, dec) x5

9. ch2, (5dc, dec) x5

10. ch2, (4dc, dec) x5

11. ch2, (3dc, dec) x5

12. ch2, (2dc, dec) x5

Leave a long tail before cutting it as you will use it to close the top.

Take the long tail, and with the needle, go through in and out of the stitches. Then pull to close. Voila ! Secure the yarn, and you are done !

Congrats on completing the beanie ! Enjoy !!!
